Hassle at Publix

Posted by Dani |

Had a bad experience with a Publix cashier earlier this evening and just needed to crab about it here.

Scoped out the cashiers as I normally do, found a clean cut 16 year old kid who looked ready to ring up some grub. Little did I know, this poor kid's on his third day of training with Super Coupon Nazi Herself.

Lucky me.

First she hesitated over allowing him to scan in my Food Lion IPs -- which are ALWAYS taken at this store, no problems. Tells him to put them aside and ring through the regular store coupons as well as the mannie's.

As he starts scanning (no beeps, everything's fine), she says incredulously, "Aren't you reading them? You need to read every line on every one of them."

I was so embarassed for this poor kid, felt so bad for putting him thru this. The woman behind me and the bagboy, obviously a veteran employee (though only 17 or 18) both rolled their eyes through the entire transaction, throwing sympathetic looks at me with apologies in their eyes.

All mannies go thru fine (duh.) and she says she needs to check with a manager before she can okay the processing of my "$1/$5 Food Lion brand purchase" Q. I even told her to forget about it, I can live with paying the dollar for the Publix cheese I purchased. Please forget it.

She refuses, tells me she wants to talk to the manager. Five full minutes (I timed it) and three managers later, she comes back and tells me they'll let them slide tonight, but since there are no Food Lions in Florida they'll no longer be accepting them in the future.

Uh, okay. There are Food Lions all over Florida, even though the closest one to us is about an hour away. But whatever. They let 'em through, so I'm not pushing it.

I'll just take in a map next trip from the Food Lion web site showing where they're located...though I highly doubt I'll have this problem again since I know to avoid this lady like the PLAGUE, lol.

I totally understand the need for coupon policing, and I'm not embarassed by the experience or anything...just felt the need to crab about it to a bunch of people who understand, LOL.
